Group rules

The rules every member of Panzer Lehr agrees to follow.

Rules and regulations

Joining means agreeing

These are the general rules of the group. Most of them come from the society’s constitution. Some are more specific, covering events and how the group works day to day. Any member can ask to see the constitution.

Please read the rules before you apply. By joining the society, you agree to follow all of them, and the same applies whenever they are updated.

If the rules are broken

Not following these rules may lead to disciplinary action within the group. The Group Commander and Second in Command decide whether to raise it, and the committee then discusses it before deciding what action to take.

1Membership

  1. Members must not hold or voice any extreme political opinions. Anyone found doing so may be expelled from the group.
  2. Membership is open to men and women.
  3. Members must be 16 or older. Members under 18 must have a responsible adult over 18 with them at all times.
  4. All members must be physically fit, of sound mind and of good character.
  5. Any member seen or found using illegal substances will be reported to the relevant authorities and expelled from the group with immediate effect.
  6. All members must have a valid, full Vanguard membership, which provides public liability insurance (PLI). The group needs proof of this before you can attend events.
  7. To stay an active member, you must attend at least two events a year.
  8. Tell the group secretary about any change to your contact details, in writing or using one of the group’s forms.

2Conduct at events

  1. Treat all members and the public with respect.
  2. Dress correctly while on the display, following the guidelines set by the Spieß (company sergeant major).
  3. No modern clothing is to be worn on the display while it is open to the public.
  4. All members help to set up and take down the display at events.
  5. Members of the public are not allowed on the display without permission from the Group Commander, Second in Command, or the appointed Pitch NCO if there is one.
  6. Members of other groups are not allowed on the display without permission from the Group Commander or Second in Command.
  7. Obey all orders given by the unit’s NCOs and officers, especially in battle or during training exercises.

3Weapons and safety

  1. No live ammunition is to be brought to events or carried on anyone at shows, at any time.
  2. Carry all your licences with you at all times, including firearms licences. Ideally, carry deactivation certificates at every event too.
  3. All members are trained by the assigned trainer before they are allowed to handle and use weapons, and must then show they can use them competently.
  4. Follow all the weapons safety measures taught in training.
  5. Never leave a live firearm unattended. Put it away or leave it with another firearms certificate (FAC) holder.

4Uniform and kit

  1. Get all the items on the Tier 1 uniform list before buying items on the Tier 2 list, so the whole group meets the same standard.
  2. Check any item not on the uniform lists with the Group Commander or Second in Command before you buy it. The group may already have enough of some items. The Spieß may also raise this if they see a need.
  3. Learn about any extra kit you buy, so you can teach others about it.
  4. Talk to other members and share what you know.

5Roles, promotion and awards

  1. Where numbers and the setup allow, the group can make room for specific roles. Some events may not allow a role because of numbers or setup.
  2. Any specific role must be agreed with the Group Commander and Second in Command before you take it on.
  3. If you take on a role, do your own research so you can learn it and get it right. The Spieß and Second in Command will check and test this.
  4. Promotion is at the discretion of the committee and depends on the needs of the group.
  5. Awards are at the discretion of the Group Commander and Second in Command. Other officers and senior NCOs can recommend a member to either of them for an award.
