Uniform requirements

The uniform and kit every member works towards, in the order to buy it.

How the tiers work

Tier 1 first

Our uniform requirements are split into tiers so that every member of the group meets the same standard. Members should complete Tier 1 before buying from Tier 2. Once you have all of Tier 1, anything on the Tier 2 list can be bought without asking first.

Sometimes a piece of kit is needed for a particular event or role. Buying it early is fine, especially if a senior NCO or officer has agreed it.

We know this is an expensive hobby. If you are unsure about anything, please speak to the senior members, who can advise you on items and the best places to get them. The group’s social forums are there for this too.

A printable A4 checklist (PDF) with space to tick off what you have and note sizes, suppliers and costs.

For your first event

New members don’t need every item to attend an event. To start with you only really need the uniform, boots, cap and belt. Other kit can often be lent for events, and we lend kit where we can to help new members fit in.

We do encourage new members to get as much of Tier 1 as they can before attending events.

Rank and specialist kit

Anything not on these lists that belongs to a particular rank will be authorised as you gain that rank.

Specialist equipment has to be discussed with the Group Commander and Second in Command first. For example, if you want an MG34, the group may already have enough of them, or an MG42 may be more useful.

As the group rules say, if you take on extra equipment like this you are expected to learn about it, so you can talk about it to the public and teach other unit members. That way everyone benefits from the knowledge.
